A selective systemic herbicide designed to control a wide range of broad-leaved weeds in fodder beet crops.
Description
Weed Control Technology for Beet Crops
Metafol is a selective systemic herbicide based on metamitron (triazine group). Developed by UPL Limited (manufactured by UPL Vietnam), this solution is engineered for the targeted suppression of broad-leaved weeds that compete with beet crops for essential moisture and nutrients during early development stages.
Mechanism of Action and Field Performance
The primary function of the product is the inhibition of photosynthesis in target weeds. The active ingredient penetrates the leaf surface, disrupting electron transport in photosystem II. Its core strength lies in its high selectivity: beets possess specific enzymes capable of neutralizing metamitron, whereas susceptible weeds are unable to detoxify it and perish shortly after application.
- Target Spectrum: Highly effective against Common Lambsquarters, Redroot Pigweed, Shepherd's Purse, Pale Smartweed, and Field Pansy.
- Systemic Efficacy: The product is translocated through plant tissues, ensuring consistent performance even if coverage is not perfectly uniform.
- Formulation: As a suspension concentrate, it ensures optimal solubility in tank mixes and stability of the emulsion, minimizing the risk of sprayer nozzle clogging.
Application Insights
Metafol is a post-emergence herbicide. The flexible application rate (from 1 to 5 L/ha) allows agronomists to adjust treatment intensity based on the weed spectrum and growth stages. Strict adherence to the protocol is required: a maximum of 3 applications per season is permitted. With a pre-harvest interval of 30 days, it remains a safe and reliable tool for professional field management.

Depending on their ability to move through living tissues, herbicides are divided into contact and systemic. Contact herbicides cause local damage to plant tissue upon contact, which dies or gradually degrades. This action does not always completely destroy the plant; often, its... |
