Oil-based nicosulfuron formulation for professional control of grass and broadleaf weeds in maize crops.
Description
Technical Performance of the Oil Dispersion Formulation
NIKO-43, MD utilizes nicosulfuron as its active ingredient, engineered within an oil dispersion (OD) formulation. Unlike traditional water-based suspensions, the oil-based carrier ensures superior droplet spreading and adhesion on the waxy surfaces of weed leaves. This technological design facilitates significantly improved penetration through the cuticle, allowing the active component to reach the plant's vascular system more efficiently even under sub-optimal climatic conditions.
Selective Mode of Action
As a selective systemic herbicide, NIKO-43 acts by inhibiting the acetolactate synthase (ALS) enzyme in target weeds. This disruption halts the biosynthesis of essential amino acids (valine and isoleucine), causing immediate cessation of growth and subsequent plant death. The selectivity is achieved through the maize crop's ability to metabolically degrade the nicosulfuron molecule, ensuring the protection of the cultivated plant while targeting specific weed species.
Spectrum of Control
NIKO-43, MD is formulated to address a wide range of weeds that compete with maize, including:
- Grasses: Common couch grass (Elymus repens), Barnyard grass, and Green foxtail.
- Broadleaves: Common ragweed, Amaranthus, Shepherd's purse, and Knotweed (Polygonum).
- Avena fatua: Effective control of wild oats.
Application Strategy
The product is designed for post-emergence application with a recommended rate of 1–1.25 L/ha. A single treatment is sufficient to achieve high control efficacy. Due to its classification as a Category 2 hazard material, standard safety protocols must be strictly followed during handling and application. The oil-based formulation provides enhanced stability of the active ingredient on the leaf surface, offering farmers a reliable tool for managing weed populations during the critical early growth stages of the maize crop.

By type of action
Depending on their ability to move through living tissues, herbicides are divided into contact and systemic. Contact herbicides cause local damage to plant tissue upon contact, which dies or gradually degrades. This action does not always completely destroy the plant; often, its... |
