A selective systemic herbicide designed for effective control of broad-leaved weeds in cereals, soybeans, and flax.
Description
Mechanism of Action and Selectivity
The product «Тифен-S в.г.» (Tifen-S w.g.) is based on thifensulfuron-methyl, a systemic herbicide belonging to the sulfonylurea class. It functions by inhibiting the acetolactate synthase (ALS) enzyme in sensitive plants. By disrupting the synthesis of essential amino acids (valine, leucine, and isoleucine), the herbicide causes an immediate cessation of cell division in the plant's growing points. The practical value of this solution lies in its inherent selectivity: crops such as soybeans, corn, and cereals are capable of metabolizing the molecule, while target weeds lose viability within hours of application.
Formulation Technology
The product is formulated as water-dispersible granules (w.g.). This form provides a high concentration of the active ingredient while eliminating dust during the preparation of the working solution. The granules break down rapidly in water, creating a stable suspension that distributes uniformly across the leaf surface. Given its post-emergence application method, Tifen-S w.g. effectively penetrates the cuticle layer, which is essential for successful weed control.
Application and Effectiveness
- Crops: High tolerance in soybeans, winter and spring wheat, flax, and corn allows for flexible treatment scheduling.
- Spectrum: Targeted control of a wide range of annual broad-leaved weeds that compete with crops for moisture and nutrients during critical growth stages.
- Systemic properties: The active ingredient is rapidly transported through the xylem and phloem, ensuring control not only of the weed's foliage but also its root system.
Utilizing Tifen-S w.g. allows for reduced pesticide pressure due to the high biological activity of the low-dosage active ingredient, which is a key profitability factor in modern intensive farming.

By type of action
Depending on their ability to move through living tissues, herbicides are divided into contact and systemic. Contact herbicides cause local damage to plant tissue upon contact, which dies or gradually degrades. This action does not always completely destroy the plant; often, its... |

Herbicides are classified according to application timing into pre-emergent and post-emergent herbicides. Pre-emergent herbicides are mostly soil-applied or granular formulations applied before the emergence of crop plants. They are applied either pre-sowing (during pre-sowing cu... |
