Reliable contact herbicide for the control of broadleaf weeds in soybean crops.
Description
Mechanism of Action and Selectivity
The herbicide "Troy" is based on the active ingredient bentazone (a benzothiadiazinone). Unlike systemic preparations that migrate through the phloem and xylem, "Troy" functions as a classic contact herbicide. Its objective is to block the process of photosynthesis within weeds. By penetrating the leaf surface, bentazone interrupts electron transport in photosystem II, leading to the inevitable demise of weed species within a few days.
Why it is crucial for soybean crops
The primary advantage of "Troy" from UPL Limited is its high selectivity. The soybean crop is capable of metabolizing bentazone into non-toxic compounds, whereas sensitive weed species lack such a defense mechanism. This makes the product an optimal post-emergence tool for protecting soybeans during the growing season.
Spectrum of target weeds
The product demonstrates high efficacy against a wide range of broadleaf weeds that frequently compete with soybeans for nutrients and moisture during critical growth stages:
- Common ragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia);
- Redroot pigweed (Amaranthus retroflexus);
- Field mustard (Sinapis arvensis);
- Wild radish (Raphanus raphanistrum);
- Shepherd's purse (Capsella bursa-pastoris);
- Cleavers (Galium aparine);
- Scentless chamomile (Matricaria inodora);
- Common purslane (Portulaca oleracea).
Technical application guidelines
"Troy" is provided in a soluble concentrate form, which simplifies the preparation of the working solution and ensures rapid penetration of the active ingredient into the weed epidermis. The product is applied strictly as a foliar spray. The optimal application rate ranges from 1.5 to 3 L/ha, depending on the density of weed infestation and the growth stage. Please note: the maximum number of applications is limited to one per season, and the pre-harvest interval (PHI) must be at least 45 days. The product falls under hazard class 3, requiring standard safety precautions when handling agrochemicals.

Depending on their ability to move through living tissues, herbicides are divided into contact and systemic. Contact herbicides cause local damage to plant tissue upon contact, which dies or gradually degrades. This action does not always completely destroy the plant; often, its... |
