Description
The "Unknown" variety is a hybrid of common and common lilac (Syringa L.), featuring a vigorous bush up to 7 m tall with a spreading rounded crown 1.5 to 2 m in diameter. Bushes have a slightly curved trunk with gray, finely fissured bark; shoots are hairless and green, while leaves are large, heart-shaped, shiny dark green, turning crimson in autumn. Leaves up to 12 cm long have delicate cilia along the edges and are sometimes downy on the underside.
The "Unknown" variety blooms early and lasts about 19–20 days, with inflorescences consisting of 267–413 flowers arranged in pyramidal panicles 9 to 20 cm long. Flowers are large (up to 2 cm in diameter), lilac with a bluish tint and a white spot in the center; buds are intensely lilac with raspberry shades, and the aroma is strong and fragrant. The bush does not bear fruit.
The variety is highly resistant to climatic conditions in the southern part of the Russian Far East, frost- and drought-hardy, undemanding to soil and tolerates urban conditions well. It is widely used in greening, living fences, and plantings due to its rapid growth, abundant flowering, and ability to be easily pruned without root suckers.
