Description
Nika is a variety of Saratov mustard (Sinapis alba L.) characterized by medium plant height and strongly dissected leaves, which ensures good ventilation and light access to fruit inflorescences. The inflorescence is racemose, the flower is yellow, and the pods without beaks or with medium-length beaks contain yellow seeds. The vegetative period is 78 days; plants are uniform in height, flowering time, and maturity, which facilitates mechanized harvesting.
The variety is distinguished by high productivity: seed yield reaches 15–33 c/ha, and green mass – up to 30 t/ha. Oil content of seeds is in the range of 45–49%, with allyl and essential oil content at about 0.62%. Seeds have an average mass of 1000 pieces (3.4–3.7 g), and oleic acid in the oil reaches 50‑51%. These indicators make «Nika» attractive both for food production and industrial use.
The variety is resistant to main agrotechnical stresses: soil drought, high temperatures, and a wide range of diseases, including cruciferous flea beetle, flea-beetle, alternaria, and powdery mildew. Thanks to this resistance, «Nika» is suitable for cultivation in various climatic zones, ensuring a stable yield even under unfavorable conditions.
