The Dutch breeding company Bejo has developed Talon F1 as a specialized tool for industrial processing. This short-day onion is a solution for professional farms focused on crop stability under high pathogen pressure.

Phytopathological protection

The key engineering feature of this variety is its genetic resistance to pink root rot (Pyrenochaeta terrestris). In intensive farming systems where fusarium and rot diseases become a limiting factor, Talon F1 demonstrates a high resistance barrier. This radically reduces the risk of losing marketable yield during the maturation phase and in the first weeks post-harvest.

Morphology and processing

The round-shaped bulb with characteristic dark bronze skin features a dense structure. A dry matter content of 10–12% makes this hybrid optimal for deep processing, such as drying, freezing, or canning. The white flesh retains its technological properties even during extended storage, which lasts for 4–5 months under controlled temperature conditions.
