Description
This variety was obtained by G.T. Kazymin at the Far Eastern Research Institute of Agriculture through pollination in 1958 of the 'Shiro' variety with a mixture of pollen from yellow-fleshed Ulmus persimmon. It was registered in 1988 in Primorsky Krai. It is also cultivated in Khabarovsk Krai and in smaller quantities in the Jewish Autonomous and Amur Oblasts.
The tree is very vigorous, with thick skeletal branches, slightly shedding. Shoots are thick, straight, reddish-brown. Flower buds are large, round, forming on one-year growths and on fruiting spurs of the spear type located on two- to four-year-old wood. Buds are dark brown. Leaves are large, lance-shaped, upper surface dark green, lower surface light green, smooth. Petiole is small, dark green. Flowers are very small (13 mm in diameter), few, yellow-pink, oval-elongated, narrowly open. Pistil is elevated above stamens, on some flowers forms 2-3 pistils. Calyx is narrow-bowl-shaped.
Fruits are large, average weight 28 g, maximum 35 g. Fruit shape is irregular, resembling an apple. Surface is smooth, lower indentation is narrow and deep. Suture is deep. Main color is yellow-orange, covering a large part of the fruit, dark raspberry. Fruits are abundantly covered with waxy bloom. Flesh is yellowish, very juicy, sweet, with pineapple aroma, slightly acidic from the skin. Dry matter content — 18%. Pit is elongated-round, medium size, light brown, pointed tip. Detaches from flesh moderately.
Self-sterile variety. Pollinators — registered varieties. Blooming from May 25 to June 5. Fruit ripening by August 10-15. Begins fruiting on the fourth year of grafting, mass fruiting on the 5-7th year. Good fruiting in interplanting with 'Khabarovsk Early' and 'Rassvet Early'. Yield from the tree up to 12 kg from the fifth year.
Cold hardiness of the variety in Primorsky Krai is high. In Khabarovsk Krai, it is grown on high elevations with grafting onto cold-hardy scaffold branches. Slightly damaged by sunscald. Moderately damaged by fruit moth.
