Description
Green Reincarnation seedling, grafted onto the crown of Red Early Plum. Authors: A.N. Venyaminov, A.G. Turovtseva, A.I. Astakhov. Approved for cultivation in the southern part of the Central Chernozem region and southern areas of the country.
Medium-growing tree with an elevated, rounded crown. Moderate winter hardiness.
Fruits are single, large (30-35 g), teardrop-shaped, brownish-blue in color. Flesh is olive-green, firm, crisp, slightly sour-sweet with a strong aroma. Contains 19% dry matter, 10% sugars, 1.1% acids, pH 3.49-3.56. Fruits have excellent flavor (5 points), resembling southern black plums. Stone is medium-sized, elongated with a pointed tip, easily separates from ripe fruit.
Fruit ripens late, in the first decade of September. Fruits are suitable for fresh consumption and various processing methods (jams, preserves, juices, etc.).
Tree begins fruiting on the 4th-5th year after planting. Flowering is late. Self-sterile, requires pollination by late-flowering varieties of domestic plum. Characterized by prolonged vegetation period, late leaf fall, and in exceptionally severe winters, can suffer frost damage. However, it has good recovery ability and is resistant to diseases.
Yield in full-grown plantations on three state trial plots (Krylovsk, Pavlovsk, Belgorod) over several years: average — 140 centners per hectare, maximum — 225 centners per hectare; per tree, respectively 30 kg and 45 kg of fruit.
The main advantage of Voronezh Hungarian Plum is that it is the best variety among conserving varieties. Fruits are suitable for producing premium jams and even for drying.
The drawback of the variety: due to late fruit ripening, in cool summer seasons the plum may not fully mature, although fruits ripen well during storage.
