Psilenchus is a genus of plant-parasitic nematodes belonging to the order Tylenchida and the family Tylenchidae. These microscopic worms inhabit the rhizosphere, interacting closely with the root systems of various plant species. As migratory endoparasites or ectoparasites, they utilize a specialized stylet to pierce root tissues and extract cell contents, which constitutes a significant stress factor for the host plant.

This pest is known to affect a wide range of agricultural crops, including cereals, vegetables, and ornamentals. The nematode population density in the soil is often a critical factor determining the economic impact. Psilenchus species are typically found in diverse soil types, thriving in environments where they can easily locate susceptible host roots to sustain their life cycle.
