Bigseed alfalfa dodder (Cuscuta indecora Choisy) is a parasitic plant within the Convolvulaceae family. It is an obligate parasite, meaning it lacks chlorophyll and a functional root system, relying entirely on host plants for sustenance. By utilizing specialized structures called haustoria, it penetrates the vascular system of the host to extract essential water and nutrients.

Originally native to the Americas, this species has successfully colonized diverse environments across the globe. Its presence in agricultural fields is highly problematic, as it acts as a significant threat to crop health and agricultural productivity. The plant is considered a serious quarantine weed in many jurisdictions due to its aggressive growth and ease of dispersal.

The morphology of the plant features thread-like stems that coil tightly around host stems. Small, white, bell-shaped flowers bloom in clusters during the growing season. Key biological traits include an extreme capacity for seed production and prolonged seed dormancy in the soil, which allows it to persist in fields for over a decade despite tillage efforts.

Agronomic management is essential to prevent infestations. Key strategies include:
