Description
A variety selected by S.G. Sukhotskaya (Omsk State Agricultural University), obtained through selection among seedlings of steppe cherry. Under state variety testing since 1993.
Bush up to 160 cm tall, 160-170 cm in diameter. Round, spreading crown, medium density. Bears fruit on last year's growth and cluster branches. Shoots of medium thickness, straight, brownish-green, covered with numerous small white stipules. Leaves small, inversely egg-shaped, short-pointed, smooth, shiny, concave, curved downward. Leaf margin finely toothed. Petioles short, green, with 2-6 small, yellow, round glands at the base of the leaf.
Fruits dark red, round, slightly flattened. Average fruit mass 1.7 g, maximum 2.4 g. Stone small, inversely egg-shaped, pointed, smooth. Accounts for 7-11% of fruit mass. On average, fruits contain dry matter up to 12.6%, sugars 7.0-8.1%, acids 1.0-1.4%, vitamin C 21-23 mg%. The low acid content combined with relatively high sugar content creates a pleasant taste in fresh fruit, with a taste rating of 4.3 points, and compotes up to 4.5 points.
Early bearing, partially self-fertile, pollinators: Vuzovskaya, Irtyshskaya. Fruits ripen mid-late July. Sufficiently winter-hardy. Average yield 5.5-6.0 t/ha, maximum 12.3 t/ha. Recommended planting schemes 4 x 1 m.
Advantages: early bearing; good winter hardiness (at temperatures down to -40°, frost damage did not exceed 2 points); high fruit quality both fresh and processed; easily propagated by green cuttings (average rooting rate 67%).
Disadvantages: variability in rooting and survival of green cuttings from year to year.
