Description
T.V. Morozova was introduced into the VNIIS (Institute of Horticulture named after I.V. Michurin) from black cherry seed 'Shirpobet', treated with the mutagenic chemical EI at a concentration of 0.005% during the germination stage. Introduced into the State Register in 1994 for the Central Chernozem and North Caucasus regions.
The tree is weakly vigorous, with a wide, rounded, slightly elevated, sparse crown. Fruit set occurs on cluster branches of the spur type. Bark on the trunk and main branches is brown. Shoots are large, brownish-brown with a small amount of lenticels. Buds are oval, slightly deviated from the shoot. Leaves are medium-sized, narrowly oval in shape, doubly serrated, smooth surface, shiny, dark green, non-hairy. Leaf petioles are below average length, medium thickness, lacking anthocyanin pigmentation at the base. There are 1-2 small dark red glands at the base of the leaf. Flowers are medium-sized, white, rose-like. Petal shape is rounded. Flowering is late. Stigma is higher than the stamens.
Fruits are large (mass 4.8-5.0 g), with a flat-rounded apex, a medium indentation at the base, and a small ventral seam. Pedicel is medium-sized, medium thickness, with a distinct separation layer between fruit and pedicel. Fruits are dark red with a small number of small superficial spots on the skin. Stone is large, rounded. Flesh is dark red with purplish juice, medium density, tender texture, very juicy. Taste is sour-sweet with high sweetness and medium acidity.
Fruits ripen late — in Michurinsk in the last decade of July, beginning of August. Transportability is medium. Chemical composition of fruits: sugars — 9.99%, acids — 1.67%, ascorbic acid — 38 mg/100g. Universal-purpose variety with high technological fruit qualities.
Fruit production begins on 2-4 years. Yield is 60-80 centners/ha under Michurinsk conditions. Self-fertile variety, but yield increases when planted alongside varieties Zhukovskaya, Turgenevka, Lyubskaya. Tree is highly winter-hardy, moderately drought-tolerant, with high field resistance to coccomyces (not more than 2 points in epidemic years). Propagated by budding onto seedlings of cultivated cherry varieties, as well as on Vladimirskaya clones. Rooting rate via green cuttings reaches up to 50%.
Advantages of the variety: high wood winter hardiness, high yield, high disease resistance, dwarf growth.
Disadvantages: heavy fruit load, requires timely pruning.
