Description
Merежka blackcurrant variety is of medium ripening period and characterized by high yield. This variety is resistant to major diseases such as powdery mildew, leaf spot, and anthracnose, and also exhibits resistance to pests including leaf roller, aphids, and gall mites. The plant grows well on various soil types, including sandy-loam, clay loam, light clay loam, and chernozem, making it suitable for cultivation in different regions.
Merежka bushes are vigorous, with thick, upright, beige-colored branches covered with a matte pubescence. Leaves are large, dark green, leathery, with a concave blade and shallow sinus at the base. Leaf shape is mostly three-lobed, sometimes five-lobed, with blunt and short teeth. Such foliage provides good protection and promotes healthy plant development.
Fruits of the Merежka variety have round or flattened-round shape, red single-color skin, and thick skin. Fruits are medium to large in size, weighing 0.7 to 1.4 grams, distinguished by good flavor with refreshing acidity and high ascorbic acid content. The taste is mild, without pronounced aroma, making them suitable for fresh consumption and processing. The variety has been included in the State Register of Plant Varieties and is recommended for cultivation by both professional and amateur growers.
