Genetic Defense: Why 'Tayna' Performs in the Field

The 'Tayna' blackcurrant variety is a product of scientific breeding conducted by the Krasnoyarsk Science Center of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The development focused on solving the two most critical issues in berry production: fungal pathogens and destructive pests. Crop stability is built directly into the plant's genome.

Biological Barrier Against Phytopathogens

A key technical feature of this variety is its inherent immunity to powdery mildew. Unlike varieties requiring a rigorous schedule of fungicide applications, 'Tayna' displays high resistance to Sphaerotheca mors-uvae. In a commercial or home garden setting, this eliminates the need for intensive chemical interventions, reducing operational costs and ensuring cleaner, eco-friendly produce.

Resistance to the Currant Bud Mite

The second critical technical node is the genetic resistance to the currant bud mite (Cecidophyopsis ribis). This pest is notoriously difficult to control because it colonizes the interior of the buds, rendering surface-level contact sprays largely ineffective. The breeding approach utilized by the Krasnoyarsk team effectively blocks the infestation mechanism, preventing bud deformation and the subsequent loss of plant productivity.
