Description
Vernisage black currant variety is a high-yielding, mid-season black currant variety developed in 1985 by crossing Klusonovska and Triton varieties. The plants of this variety are tall with moderate spreading and long, medium-thickness branches. Berries are large, round-oval, black with a shiny skin and dense greenish-brown flesh. Average berry weight ranges from 1.6 to 2.2 grams. The flavor of the fruits is tangy-sweet with a pleasant aroma, making them attractive for fresh consumption.
Vernisage is characterized by high, stable yields and self-fertility, which simplifies cultivation. The variety is resistant to major diseases such as powdery mildew, anthracnose, stem rust, as well as pests like bud mite and leaf gall mite. Additionally, it exhibits enhanced drought tolerance and cold hardiness up to -30˚C, allowing cultivation in various climatic conditions. The bushes are perennial and can bear fruit for up to 15 years, preferring sunny locations and being planted in spring or autumn.
Vernisage berries ripen nearly simultaneously in mid-July, facilitating harvest. They are suitable for various culinary purposes: fresh consumption, freezing, and for producing high-quality processed products such as juices, wine materials, and especially thick, vitamin-rich jelly. Due to their flavor and beneficial microelements, this variety is popular among both home gardeners and on an industrial scale.
