TAVKVERI MAGARACHA

Tavkveri Magaracha is a late-ripening grape variety bred in Ukraine at the NIViV "Magarach" research institute by breeder P. Ya. Golodryga. This variety is characterized by vigorous bushes with well-matured shoots and minimal sucker formation. The flower is hermaphroditic, and the leaves are entire and smooth, without pubescence on the underside. The bunch is conical, winged, of medium density, with a weight of about 180 grams. Berries are of medium size, round, black with intense pruinosity, a thin elastic skin, and juicy pulp without a pronounced varietal aroma. The berry juice is uncolored, which allows the use of the grapes for various types of wine.

The variety is distinguished by high resistance to diseases such as mildew, powdery mildew, and gray rot, as well as field resistance to phylloxera. Frost resistance reaches -23 °C, making it suitable for cultivation in various climatic conditions. Yield is 100-120 centners per hectare, with a bush load reaching 40 buds with pruning to 4-6 buds. Technical maturity occurs in mid-October, although berries begin to color as early as early September.

Tavkveri Magaracha grapes are used for the production of high-quality red table, fortified, and dessert wines, including types like Kagar. Wines from this variety are characterized by deep color, good tannins, and a bright aroma, in which notes of rosehips, forest berries, and oak barrel are clearly noticeable. Tasting evaluation of the wine reaches 7.9 points, confirming its high quality and value for winemaking.
