Protecting yields: Practical experience with the Flagman herbicide

When weeds like lamb's quarters, amaranth, or cleavers appear in the field, time is working against your bottom line. In my day-to-day operations, I rely on the Flagman herbicide for broadleaf weed control in soybeans, cereals, and flax. As a bentazon-based contact herbicide, its standout feature is selectivity: it targets weeds aggressively while leaving the crop unharmed, which is essential for yield quality.

Application and Field Performance

Flagman is convenient to work with. It comes in a water-based solution that is easy to measure and mix into the tank. Based on my experience, a dosage of 2.0–3.0 L/ha is sufficient to handle standard weed pressure. Since it is a post-emergence selective herbicide, I apply it foliarly during the active growth stage of the weeds to maximize uptake.

• Effective Control: Manages problematic weeds such as field bindweed, black nightshade, scentless mayweed, and wild mustard.
• Flexibility: Can be applied up to three times per season, ensuring the field remains clean right up to harvest.
• Handling: Classified under safety level 3, which is standard for this type of chemistry; normal protective gear is all you need.

The key to success with Flagman is timing the application to the weed growth stage. Because it acts primarily through contact, the quality of coverage on the leaf surface is everything. Don't wait until the weeds are overgrown; treating during the 'first wave' of growth saves on product costs and minimizes stress on the crop. It’s a reliable tool for keeping fields clean without complex application protocols.
