Efficient grain protection: field experience with Magnum WDG

When perennial weeds like thistle (Cirsium) or field sow-thistle take over the field, standard preparations often fail. Magnum WDG is a solution where a single application solves the cleanliness issue for winter wheat and barley. As an operator, I appreciate the formulation: the water-dispersible granules dissolve perfectly, do not clog sprayer nozzles, and do not create excess dust while preparing the tank mix.

Application features and performance

• Systemic control: The active ingredient, metsulfuron-methyl, penetrates leaves and is quickly translocated through the vascular system, inhibiting weed growth right at the root.
• Selectivity: The herbicide is highly selective. The crops remain unaffected, while common weeds like lambsquarters, field pennycress, shepherd's purse, and wild buckwheat are eliminated quickly.
• Cost-effectiveness: With minimal application rates (just 8–10 grams per hectare), logistics and storage are extremely efficient. A small container covers significant acreage.

It is important to note that this is a post-emergence herbicide. One pass per season is sufficient to relieve the crop from weed pressure during critical growth stages. While working with a Class 3 hazard product requires standard safety measures, its performance is highly predictable. We use it when we need to guarantee a clean field from hard-to-kill weed species without overspending on expensive multi-component mixtures.
