A reliable systemic herbicide for controlling grass and broadleaf weeds in tolerant sunflower crops.
Description
Synergy of Imidazolinones in Sunflower Protection
The efficacy of Soteyra, SL is based on a strategic combination of two active ingredients: imazamox (33 g/L) and imazapyr (15 g/L). This formulation represents a standard solution for the Clearfield production system, providing broad-spectrum control of both broadleaf and grass weeds in sunflower hybrids tolerant to the imidazolinone herbicide group.
Technical Mechanism of Action
The primary function of Soteyra, SL is to inhibit the synthesis of essential amino acids within the target weeds. Both imazamox and imazapyr are absorbed through the foliage and root system, rapidly translocating via the phloem and xylem to the growing points. This systemic action is crucial for controlling stubborn weeds like common ragweed, perennial sowthistle, and cleavers. By halting growth almost immediately upon application, the herbicide eliminates competition for moisture and nutrients with the crop.
Application and Field Management
- Selective Action: Must be applied strictly on sunflower hybrids that are genetically tolerant to imidazolinones. Application on conventional sunflower will result in total crop failure.
- Timing and Usage: Designed as a post-emergence herbicide. The optimal growth stage for sunflowers is the 2–4 true leaf stage, while weeds should be in their active growth phase (no more than 4 leaves for broadleaf species).
- Dosage and Formulation: Application rate is 1–1.2 L/ha. The product is formulated as a soluble concentrate, ensuring rapid mixing and a stable emulsion in the spray tank.
The manufacturer, Frandesa (Republic of Belarus), ensures high-purity active ingredients, which helps minimize crop stress when adhering to recommended rates. It is important to note that Soteyra, SL provides residual soil activity, suppressing subsequent flushes of weeds; however, growers must consider crop rotation constraints in subsequent seasons due to the soil persistence of imidazolinones.

Depending on their ability to move through living tissues, herbicides are divided into contact and systemic. Contact herbicides cause local damage to plant tissue upon contact, which dies or gradually degrades. This action does not always completely destroy the plant; often, its... |
