Description
Omega – a variety of white mustard (Sinapis alba L.), mid-season and diploid. The plant reaches a height of about 65 cm, has long stems and short pods with long beaks. The vegetation period is 75 to 83 days.
The variety is intended for seed production, from which technical oil is obtained, and is also used as green fodder and green manure. Mass of 1000 seeds – 5.7 g, oil content in seeds 41.5 %. The oil contains erucic acid (2.54 %) and allyl alcohol (0.17 %). Seed yield is 12.3 c/ha, and green mass – from 98.3 to 197.9 c/ha. The variety is resistant to shattering and lodging with a rating of 5.0 points, and to drought – 4.0 points.
According to the applicant, Omega has increased resistance to powdery mildew, alternaria, crucifer clubroot, and cruciferous blossom fly. This makes it suitable for cultivation in various climatic zones, including northern, central, and eastern regions.
Cold-pressed unrefined oil from the seeds of the Omega variety retains the maximum of useful substances: it contains less saturated fat than other oils, but is rich in polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acids – 35 times higher than in olive and sunflower oil. The oil has antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, natural antibiotic, antiviral, and analgesic effects.
