It acts as both a pathogen and a saprophyte, allowing it to survive in various environments.

The fungus is primarily responsible for several devastating diseases, such as seedling blight, root rot, cob rot, and fruit rot. Symptoms typically include the appearance of white, salmon-colored, or pinkish mycelial growth on the affected plant tissues.
