The primary diseases caused by this pathogen include Fusarium head blight, root rot, and stem rot. By attacking the vascular system and roots of the host plant, the fungus prevents the proper uptake of water and nutrients. In cereal crops, it causes shriveling of the grains and premature senescence, leading to significant economic losses and potential contamination with mycotoxins.
