Eucalyptus astringens, commonly known as brown mallet, is an evergreen tree species belonging to the Myrtaceae family. It is a medium-sized tree that typically grows to a height of up to 24 meters, characterized by its smooth, grey-brown bark and dense, high-quality timber that has made it a significant economic species in forestry.

This tree is native to the southwestern region of Western Australia. It is found in habitats characterized by gravelly or sandy soils, often thriving in areas that experience dry, Mediterranean-style climates. The species has adapted well to these conditions, displaying remarkable resilience to seasonal water scarcity and high solar radiation.

Botanically, Eucalyptus astringens features narrow, lance-shaped leaves and produces creamy-white flowers during its peak blooming season.
