Description

The pear-fruited giant eucalyptus is a distinct hybrid resulting from the cross-breeding of Eucalyptus pyriformis and Eucalyptus macrocarpa, belonging to the Myrtaceae family. This ornamental shrub is highly regarded for its robust structure and its ability to produce some of the most striking floral displays within the eucalyptus genus.

Originating from the arid regions of Western Australia, this hybrid is well-adapted to extreme heat and prolonged dry spells. In modern horticulture, it is cultivated primarily in Mediterranean-climate zones, where winter temperatures do not drop below critical thresholds, ensuring the survival of its somewhat tender foliage.

Botanically, the plant is characterized by its large, heavy, pear-shaped fruits and massive flowers that bloom in shades of brilliant red to soft pink. The foliage is thick, leathery, and covered in a glaucous, waxy coating, which serves as a physiological adaptation to reduce water loss during intense sun exposure.
