Description
Kobza is a hybrid black currant variety developed in 2004 at the Prilutskaya Experimental Station of NAAN. This variety is characterized by high yield and early ripening. The plants are upright, tall, and easy to manage, facilitating care and harvest. Berries are large, weighing up to 5.5–6 grams, uniform and marketable, with a tart-sweet flavor rated at 4.4 points. Bunches are of medium to long shape, which facilitates harvesting and transport.
The Kobza variety demonstrates high productivity, surpassing the control variety 'Suite Kyivskaya' by 20–40% in yield. By the second year after planting, average yield per bush reaches about 1 kg. The plant exhibits moderate resistance to diseases such as septoria and anthracnose, and symptoms of infection by sphacelotheca are not observed. This makes the variety sufficiently resistant to variable climatic conditions and adverse weather conditions typical of the northern part of the Left-Bank Forest-Steppe of Ukraine.
Kobza combines a complex of valuable agronomic traits: high productivity, resistance to diseases and pests, ecological adaptability, and ease of cultivation. Thanks to these qualities, the variety is suitable for both commercial plantations and home gardens, ensuring a stable and high-quality black currant harvest even under challenging climatic conditions.
