Description
RUBEN is a high-yielding, large-fruited black currant variety of Polish selection, obtained by crossing the varieties "Belorussian Sweet" and "Ben Lomond". The bushes are medium-height, wide, and spreading, with straight and sturdy medium-thick shoots that bend under the weight of the fruit. The height and width of the bush reach about 2 meters, and with proper agronomy, the plant can grow in one place for up to 20 years. The clusters are of medium size, densely packed with berries that are uniform, large, and glossy black. The berries are round, with a firm and elastic skin, dense and juicy flesh, a sour-sweet taste, and a pleasant black currant aroma.
The RUBEN variety is characterized by high resistance to diseases, including American powdery mildew, anthracnose, and rust, as well as high frost tolerance. It does not suffer from fruit drop, which helps maintain the harvest. The berries ripen in mid-July, which corresponds to a medium ripening period. The berries have high sugar content and contain significant amounts of ascorbic acid, making them especially nutritious and tasty. Due to their dense structure and dry detachment, the variety is suitable for mechanical harvesting.
The RUBEN black currant is versatile in application: it is ideal for both home cultivation and industrial production. The berries are suitable for all types of processing, including juice, jam, and freezing. The variety is well-adapted to various climatic conditions, including the climate of Ukraine, making it a reliable choice for gardeners and farmers seeking a stable and high-quality black currant harvest.
