Sofia

Sofia currant variety is a high-yielding and disease-resistant fruit shrub widely cultivated in Ukraine. The plant reaches a height of about 100 cm, with a semi-umbrella-shaped crown and thick, elastic young shoots. This variety is characterized by good self-fertility, ensuring full berry clusters, as well as comprehensive resistance to fungal diseases, bud mites, and leaf gall. Sofia is suitable for cultivation in all regions of the country and requires minimal care, making it attractive to gardeners. The berries of Sofia currant ripen from late June to late July, placing the variety in the mid-late category. Berries have medium to large size — from 1.5 to 3.6 grams, with a firm skin and black color with a purple tint. They ripen uniformly and are well suited for transportation, allowing use both fresh and for processing. Berries do not drop off the plant even after prolonged stay, but rather dry out, facilitating harvest. For planting, maintain a distance of approximately 50 cm between bushes and plant depth of about 10 cm. Optimal growing conditions include moderately moist soil and infrequent watering. The variety is frost-resistant and suitable for zones 3-4. High yield reaches 8-9 kg per bush, making Sofia currant an excellent choice for gardeners seeking quality and stable harvests of beneficial berries.
