Unity

Blackcurrant variety 'Unity' is a new early-ripening Ukrainian variety developed through selective breeding by the Institute of Horticulture of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine. This variety was created by crossing 'Anniversary Kopanya' and 'Ukrayinka' varieties, with breeders O. M. Yarischenko, Ya. Yu. Tereshchenko, K. M. Kopany, and V. P. Kopany. The plants of this variety are tall and semi-spreading, showing resistance to the most damaging fungal diseases, which ensures their longevity and health. 'Unity' is characterized by early fruiting and high productivity, making it attractive for cultivation in both private gardens and commercial plantations.

The berries of blackcurrant 'Unity' have an average weight of about 1.8 grams, with individual berries reaching up to 2.6 grams. They exhibit uniform size and dense clusters. The berry skin is of medium thickness and elastic, which contributes to good storage and transportability. The flavor is dessert-like and very sweet, making this variety especially appealing to consumers who prefer sweet berries.

Inclusion in the State Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine confirms its significance and potential for developing the berry industry in the country. Thanks to its qualities — early ripening, high yield, and excellent taste — this variety has good prospects for commercial cultivation and expanding the blackcurrant market in Ukraine.
