Genetic Potential and Morphology

The «Antonovka» winter soft wheat variety, developed by Elita Shebekinsky District in partnership with the Plant Breeding and Genetics Institute, is an intensive-type variety. With a plant height of 90–100 cm, it exhibits excellent lodging resistance, a critical factor when applying high nitrogen fertilizer rates to achieve yields of 8–9 tons per hectare. Its moderate height allows for efficient biomass management and minimizes losses during mechanized harvesting.

Phytosanitary Barrier

The primary advantage of this variety is its comprehensive genetic resistance to economically significant pathogens. For farmers, this translates into a reduced fungicide application burden. «Antonovka» shows robust resistance to:

• Rust complex: Yellow, Brown, and Stem rust, which are major threats capable of reducing yields by up to 30%.
• Root rots and Fusarium: Ensures stable development of the root system and high grain quality.
• Septoria, powdery mildew, and various blotches: Preserves photosynthetic activity of the leaves, which the variety maintains deep into the grain-filling phase.

Grain Quality and Biological Features

The 1,000-grain weight ranges from 35 to 40 grams. This is an optimal value that ensures good grain hectoliter weight and high flour yield. Due to the expertise involved in its development, the variety is adapted to challenging climatic conditions, demonstrating high germination energy and uniform emergence. The intensive growth model requires strict adherence to optimal sowing dates to fully realize the inherent yield potential.
