Description
Harmonika is a soft winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) variety of intensive use, developed for cultivation in the Steppe, Forest-Steppe, and Polissia zones of Ukraine. It was included in the State Register of plant varieties suitable for propagation in Ukraine in 2017 and is recommended for zones with varying climatic conditions. The variety belongs to the erythrospermum group and is characterized by a short stem, which increases its resistance to lodging and facilitates harvest.
Harmonika is distinguished by high, stable yields and good winter hardiness, as well as resistance to major diseases and drought. The thousand-grain weight is 42.7 g, indicating well-formed but not overly large kernels, which is important to consider during cleaning. In various trials, yields ranged from 6.7 to 8.9 t/ha, confirming its high productivity under proper agronomic practices.
To achieve maximum yields, Harmonika should be grown on a high agronomic base with optimal doses of mineral fertilizers, especially after black fallow. An important condition is protecting crops from pests and diseases, as well as seed treatment with a fungicide mixed with an insecticide before sowing. The seeding rate is 4.5 million viable seeds per hectare for fallow land and 5.5 million for non-fallow predecessors. The variety is medium-maturing, allowing effective planning of sowing and harvest dates.
