Description
IREN 2 is a variety of soft spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) characterized by early maturity and medium growth. The vegetative period ranges from 77 to 93 days, allowing the variety to mature simultaneously with the Tyumen Early wheat and a few days earlier than the Tuluinskaya 12. The grain is elongated, colored, with a medium awn, and the mass of 1000 grains varies from 35 to 42 grams. The average yield in the Volga-Vyatsk and West Siberian regions reaches 38.4 and 23.6 centners per hectare, respectively, which corresponds to the average standard for these regions.
The variety has good resistance to lodging, outperforming the Tyumen Early wheat standard by 0.5-0.7 points, and demonstrates drought resistance at the standard level. The baking quality of IREN 2 is rated as good, making it valuable for producing high-quality flour and bakery products. However, the variety has medium resistance to powdery mildew and is susceptible to septoria, root rots, and stem rust. Additionally, it is highly susceptible to powdery and hard bunt, as well as brown rust.
For successful cultivation, it is recommended to conduct seed treatment and fungicide treatments during the vegetative period, which helps reduce the risk of diseases. IREN 2 is recommended for cultivation in various climatic zones of Russia, including the Novosibirsk and Tomsk regions, as well as the Northern and Southeastern zones of the Perm region. Thanks to its characteristics and adaptability, this variety is suitable for use in temperate climates, providing stable yields and high grain quality.
