Description
Spencer wheat is a winter variety developed by KWS (Austria), intended for cultivation in central and northern regions of Ukraine, including the forest-steppe and Polesie. The ripening period ranges from 260 to 275 days, providing optimal conditions for a stable yield. The variety is distinguished by high winter hardiness, enabling successful overwintering even under harsh climatic conditions. Additionally, Spencer exhibits resistance to drought, lodging, and shattering, which contributes to yield preservation and quality improvement.
One of the key features of this variety is its high resistance to a broad spectrum of diseases, including powdery mildew, rust, pyrenophorosis, septoria, fusarium, as well as pests such as the Swedish fly and the shield bug. This significantly reduces the need for intensive chemical protection and ensures stable yields. Wheat Spencer also demonstrates high resistance to aluminum ions, making it adaptable to various soil types and suitable for cultivation on less favorable lands.
The variety is characterized by high yield — from 49.3 to 67.1 centners per hectare — as well as excellent grain quality. It contains a high protein content and high falling number, making the grain in demand in the food industry. The recommended sowing depth is 3–4 cm, with a seeding rate of 350–450 seeds per hectare. Thanks to its adaptive properties and resistance to adverse factors, wheat Spencer is a reliable choice for farmers seeking a stable and high-quality harvest.
