Mescal

Mescal — an early-mid winter wheat variety developed for cultivation in the Polissia, forest-steppe, and steppe zones. This variety is characterized by high yield potential up to 13.0 t/ha, making it attractive for intensive farming technologies. Mescal exhibits good winter hardiness and drought resistance, allowing successful cultivation even with late sowing. Plant height varies from 85 to 100 cm, and the 1000-grain weight ranges from 38.9–44.6 g, indicating large kernel size and high grain quality. The variety shows high resistance to major diseases, including root rot, septoria, fusarium, brown rust, and powdery mildew, significantly reducing the risk of yield loss and minimizing the need for frequent fungicide applications. Additionally, Mescal demonstrates favorable agronomic traits: moderate stem density, high grain number per ear, and medium protein content (13.5–14.0 %), as well as high or medium gluten content, positively affecting grain quality and technological properties. Recommended seeding rate is 3.0 to 4.5 million viable seeds per hectare, ensuring optimal plant density and maximum productivity. The variety is suitable for traditional and shallow soil tillage, simplifying agronomic operations. Due to its qualities and adaptability, Mescal is a reliable choice for farmers aiming to achieve high and stable grain yields with good technological characteristics.
