Description
Winter wheat Cantata Odessa is an extra-strong variety with an optimal combination of gluten elasticity and extensibility, ensuring high grain quality. It belongs to the wheat quality group and the erythrospermum (ostist) variety. Plants are medium height — 88 to 96 cm, with large ears 10.1–11.8 cm long and well-filled kernels. The 1000-seed weight is 39–46 g. The vegetation period is medium early, allowing the variety to be grown in various climatic zones, including Polissia, Forest Steppe, and Steppe.
Cantata Odessa is distinguished by high yield, achieved through high productive tillering (680–850 stems per m²) and large kernels. The variety exhibits high winter hardiness and drought resistance, as well as excellent resistance to lodging and stem breakage. Plant development is above average in autumn and intensive in spring, with high tillering intensity. Resistance to major diseases, such as powdery mildew, septoria, root rots, and fusarium, is rated as medium.
Grain quality is characterized by protein content ranging from 13.6–14.9% and gluten content 34–38%, making the variety attractive for grain use. The variety is recommended for cultivation in Steppe and Forest Steppe and demonstrates high positive response to nitrogen fertilizer application. Registered in 2016, it is the result of breeding work by the Selection-Genetic Institute of the National Center for Seed Production and Variety Evaluation.
