Description
Wheat variety Oriyka is a medium-early, intensive winter wheat variety developed by domestic breeders of the Institute of Plant Physiology and Genetics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. This variety is distinguished by its high adaptability to drought-prone conditions, making it especially valuable for cultivation in the Polissia, forest-steppe, and steppe zones. Plant height is 91–94 cm, and the potential yield reaches 8–10 tons per hectare under proper agronomic practices.
Oriyka is characterized by high resistance to several diseases, including powdery mildew and brown rust, as well as to stress factors such as drought and shattering. The grain of this variety contains 14.5–15.0% protein and 30.1–34.3% crude gluten, ensuring high product quality. The 1000-grain weight varies within 36.0–38.0 g, indicating the variety’s large kernel size.
To achieve maximum yield, it is recommended to follow optimal rates of mineral fertilizer application and protect crops from pests and diseases. The recommended seeding rate is 4.5–5.5 million germinating seeds per hectare. The variety successfully grows in various regions of Ukraine, including Vinnytsia, Dnipro, Zhytomyr, Zaporizhzhia, Kirovohrad, Kyiv, Lviv, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Poltava, Rivne, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Cherkasy regions.
