Pošana

Winter wheat variety Pošana is a high-yielding mid-early variety developed by the Selection and Genetics Institute of NAAN and registered in 2004. This variety is intended for cultivation in forest-steppe and steppe zones, demonstrating high resistance to lodging, frost, drought, and various diseases, ensuring stable yields even under adverse climatic conditions. Plant height ranges from 90 to 105 cm, and the recommended seeding rate is 4.5–5.5 million germinating seeds per hectare. The grain of variety Pošana is large, egg-shaped, red in color, with a 1000-grain weight of 40–42 g. It belongs to the group of strong wheats, confirmed by high protein content (13.5–14.4 %) and dough strength of 425 units of activity. The grain quality contributes to obtaining bread with volume up to 1450 cm³ and overall rating of 5.0 points, indicating excellent baking properties. The grain quality further improves under elevated nitrogen levels in the soil. Pošana features extremely strong straw, preventing lodging even at high agronomic levels. The variety’s frost resistance is above average, and its drought- and heat resistance are at a high level, making it a reliable choice for regions with variable weather conditions. Resistance to powdery mildew is moderate, while resistance to yellow dwarf virus is high. The average yield over test years is about 56.8–61 c/ha, confirming the variety’s high productivity.
