Description
SITARA is a variety of spring soft wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) bred by individual selection from the hybrid population Prokhorovka x Cub at the Tatar State Agricultural Research Institute. The variety belongs to the lutescens group, is characterized by mid-maturity with a vegetative period of 81-95 days, and ripens 2-3 days later than the Yolodz variety. The plant is of medium height, tall, with an intermediate tiller and weakly compacted straw. The ear is pyramidal, of medium density, white in color, with very short awn-like appendages at the tip. The mass of 1000 grains varies from 32 to 44 grams, and the grain is pigmented. The wax coating on the ear is medium, on the sheath of the flag leaf and the upper internode of the straw - from medium to strong.
The SITARA variety has a high yield potential and drought resistance at the level of the standard. The average yield based on state variety trials is 35.2 c/ha in the Volga-Vyatka region and 29.9 c/ha in the Middle Volga region, while the maximum yield reached 64.6 c/ha in the Nizhny Novgorod region. In recommended cultivation zones, such as the Chuvash Republic and districts of the Tatar Republic, the variety demonstrates an increase in yield compared to standards. Lodging resistance of the variety is slightly lower than the standard, lagging by 1 point.
In terms of phytosanitary characteristics, SITARA is moderately resistant to powdery mildew, moderately susceptible to powdery bunt and brown rust, while being susceptible to solid bunt. In field conditions, infection with septoria is noted at a medium level. Baking qualities of the variety are assessed as satisfactory. The variety is recommended for cultivation in the Volga-Vyatka and Middle Volga regions, including the Chuvash Republic and the Predkamenskaya and Predvolzhskaya zones of the Tatar Republic.
