Description
Sofia Kyivska is a medium-maturing winter wheat variety developed by the Institute of Plant Physiology and Genetics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. It is distinguished by high winter hardiness and drought resistance, ensuring stable growth and yield preservation under various climatic conditions. The plants are medium-height, ranging from 85 to 100 cm, which contributes to resistance against lodging and shattering.
The variety has a high yield potential, reaching 9-10 tons per hectare, and in some regions, yield may exceed 10 tons. The grain has a 1000-grain weight of 39-42 grams and protein content of 13.5-14.5%, making it in-demand for grain use. Sofia Kyivska demonstrates resistance to a wide range of diseases, including root rot, septoria, fusarium, brown rust, and powdery mildew.
To achieve maximum productivity, the variety should be sown in the latter half of the optimal sowing period with a seeding rate of 5.5-6.0 million viable seeds per hectare. The variety responds well to mineral nutrition, enabling effective use of agronomic practices to increase yield. The recommended growing zone is the forest-steppe, where the variety exhibits the best performance in terms of resistance and yield.
