Sonechko

Sonechko is a medium-height, medium-early winter wheat variety, registered in 2010 and developed by domestic breeders from the Institute of Plant Physiology and Genetics of NAS of Ukraine. The vegetation period is 280-287 days, allowing the variety to be grown in various climatic zones, including Polissia, Forest Steppe, and Steppe. The variety is characterized by high winter hardiness, exceeding the average level, as well as resistance to lodging and drought, making it a reliable choice for cultivation under variable climatic conditions. Sonechko exhibits high resistance to major wheat diseases: powdery mildew, brown leaf rust, root rot, septoria, and fusarium. The resistance level to lodging and kernel shattering is rated 8-9 points, indicating high reliability under adverse weather conditions. The grain of this variety has high quality: protein content is 14.2-14.4%, crude gluten content is 30.8-32.0%, and flour strength varies from 324 to 573 AU. The bread volume from 100 g of flour reaches 1130-1400 ml, confirming excellent baking properties. The Sonechko variety is recommended for sowing at a rate of 4.5-5.5 million viable seeds per hectare and demonstrates high yield potential — from 6 to 11 tons per hectare. Due to its universal usage type and resistance to stress factors, it is suitable for cultivation in various regions of Ukraine, including Vinnytsia, Dnipro, Zhytomyr, Zaporizhzhia, Kirovohrad, Kyiv, Lviv, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Poltava, Rivne, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Cherkasy regions.
