Description
Ustivica is a variety of soft winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) with an average-early maturity period, recommended for cultivation in various regions of Russia, including the Central Black Earth region, Stavropol Krai, and the Karachay-Cherkessia Republic. The vegetation period of the variety ranges from 223 to 289 days depending on the region, allowing for adaptation to various climatic conditions. The plants are medium-height, with a height of 63 to 88 cm, have an erect or semi-erect bush, are resistant to lodging and possess medium winter hardiness, which ensures stable crop development under moderate winter temperatures.
The variety is characterized by good drought resistance, comparable to varieties such as Odessa 267 and Grom, which makes it suitable for cultivation in regions with limited moisture. The ear is pyramid-shaped, medium density and length, with white coloration and medium awn length. The grain is colored, with a 1000-grain mass ranging from 37 to 49 grams. Ustivica demonstrates good baking qualities, making it in demand for the production of high-quality flour. The variety is moderately susceptible to diseases such as loose smut, brown rust, powdery mildew, septoria, and fusarium of the ear, which allows to reduce the risk of crop losses with a proper agronomic approach.
The average yield of the variety in the Central Black Earth region reaches 47.3 centners/hectare, while in the Belgorod region it can exceed the standards of Odessa 267 by 5 centners/hectare, reaching 66.5 centners/hectare. Maximum yields exceeding 100 centners/hectare were recorded in the Kursk region. Due to its agronomic characteristics and resistance to adverse factors, the Ustivica variety is a promising choice for farmers seeking to obtain high-quality and stable yields of soft winter wheat.
