Wimpele Odeskiy

The Wimpele Odeskiy wheat variety is a modern universal winter soft wheat variety developed at the Selection-Genetic Institute of UAAN. It is characterized by high yield, reaching 90-100 centners per hectare, and is widely cultivated in the steppe zone of Ukraine, as well as recommended for cultivation in the forest-steppe and Polissia regions. The variety exhibits intensive growth and development of plants during the autumn period, as well as the ability to rapidly and repeatedly harden, which ensures high resistance to late sowing and improves the winter hardiness of the crop.

Wimpele Odeskiy has high frost and winter hardiness (8-9 points), as well as high drought and heat resistance (9 points). It is resistant to major fungal diseases, including brown and stem rust, powdery mildew, septoria, pyrenophora, and fusarium, with resistance ratings ranging from 5 to 8 points. Morphologically, the variety belongs to the erythrospermum type, has a white pyramidal ear approximately 11.3-11.8 cm long, large red kernels weighing 43.2-45.8 g per 1000 kernels, and plant height of 102-109 cm.

The variety demonstrates high productive tillering (4.2-5.3 stems per plant), resistance to lodging and shattering of grain, as well as stable yield across various agronomic backgrounds. The vegetation period is 285-287 days, with ripening 1-2 days later than the Antonovka variety. Wimpele Odeskiy responds well to low and medium doses of nitrogen fertilizers (60-90 kg N per hectare) and is suitable for cultivation following non-traditional predecessors such as sunflower, rapeseed, mustard, and flax. High grain quality is confirmed by protein content of 12.5-13.7% and gluten content of 28-33%, making the variety in demand among agricultural enterprises.
