Description
Black Dessert is a Ukrainian black currant variety of medium-late ripening, developed by breeders Yarshchenko O.M. and Tereshchenko Ya.Yu. through crossing the varieties Jubilee Kopanya and Selychinska-2. The bushes are tall, upright, forming dense medium-sized clusters. The plant exhibits high cold resistance up to -26°C, resistance to fungal diseases, and adaptability to both sunny and partial shade locations. It is self-fertile and suitable for organic cultivation.
The berries are large, round, uniform in size, weighing 2–6 grams, with dry detachment. They possess a rich, pleasant dessert-like flavor and aroma, making this variety one of the most flavorful among industrial black currant dessert varieties. Due to their excellent taste qualities, the berries are ideal for fresh consumption, as well as for processing, freezing, and canning.
To maintain high yields, it is recommended to perform periodic cane replacement. The variety exhibits medium-high yield, comparable to traditional dessert varieties. Its high winter hardiness and drought tolerance make Black Dessert a versatile and reliable choice for cultivation under various climatic conditions.
