Description
Kalancha is a medium-early winter wheat variety of the western European type, intended for general-purpose use, primarily for grain production. The plants are medium-height, reaching 78-84 cm, with high tillering and rapid growth rates. The variety is distinguished by high resistance to lodging and grain shattering, which contributes to maintaining yield and improving grain quality. The variety has above-average cold tolerance, while drought resistance is at a medium level, allowing cultivation in various climatic zones, including the Polissia, Steppe, and Forest-Steppe regions. Kalancha has medium resistance to powdery mildew and brown leaf rust, requiring fungicide application for plant protection and maintaining crop health. To prevent lodging on high mineral nutrition backgrounds, growth regulators are recommended. Optimal sowing dates are from September 10 to 30, with a seeding rate of 4.5-5.5 million germinating seeds per hectare. For achieving high grain quality, a third fertilizer application is required. The variety exhibits high baking and milling qualities: protein content in grain ranges from 15.5-16.7%, gluten content from 33.5-35.5%, and flour strength reaches 342-345 N. The 1000-grain weight varies from 40.2 to 41.3 g. The potential yield of Kalancha variety is 8.4-10.7 t/ha (96-100 c/ha). Under proper agronomic practices and cultivation using intensive technology, the variety demonstrates stable high yield and grain quality.
