LEFT-BANK 1

Left-Bank 1 is a winter soft wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) variety developed by scientific institutions in the South-East of Russia. It is characterized as medium-maturing and medium-height, with a vegetative period ranging from 241 to 306 days. The plants have an intermediate, semi-prostrate bush, 75 to 106 cm tall, with a strong waxy coating on the upper internode of the straw, the head, and the sheath of the flag leaf. The head is pyramidal, white, medium length (7.5-8.0 cm) and density, with large red grain, semi-elongated shape and medium groove. The mass of 1000 grains varies from 36 to 53 g depending on the growing region. The variety is distinguished by high winter hardiness, comparable to the best regional varieties, and good drought resistance, making it resistant to adverse climatic conditions. Left-Bank 1 possesses resistance to lodging and infection with leaf rust, as well as brown rust and powdery mildew. High productive bushiness and heat tolerance contribute to stable and high yield, which in some regions reaches 73.5 c/ha. The variety responds well to improved agronomy and intensification of growing technologies, which additionally increases both yield and grain technological qualities. Left-Bank 1 is recommended for cultivation in various regions of Russia, including the Central Black Earth, Middle Volga, Lower Volga and Urals regions, as well as in the Belgorod, Saratov and Orenburg regions. The grain of the variety has excellent baking qualities, which increases its commercial value. For seed protection, treatment with fungicides and insecticides is recommended, which contributes to maintaining the health of crops and increasing yield.
