Odessa 117

The Odessa 117 winter soft wheat variety is a modern, high-yielding variety developed at the Selection-Genetic Institute of UAAN and registered in the Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine in 2010. It is intended for cultivation in the forest-steppe and steppe zones of Ukraine on high and medium agrofons using intensive technologies. Odessa 117 belongs to the semi-intensive group with high genetic yield potential, reaching 60-75 centners per hectare, and demonstrates resistance to lodging, shattering, and grain sprouting in the ear under adverse weather conditions, such as drought and low temperatures.

The biological characteristics of the variety include medium height, upright plant habit, and medium-dense cylindrical ears 90-108 mm long with 20-21 spikelets per 100 mm of stem. The grain is red in color, oval in shape, with a 1000-grain weight of 35-40 grams, belonging to the strong wheat group, indicating high grain quality. The variety shows high response to increased agrofons, especially to nitrogen fertilizers, which contributes to achieving maximum yield when agronomic requirements are met.

Odessa 117 has a long seed dormancy period (45-50 days), ensuring reliable storage and sowing qualities. Medium-early heading and ripening dates allow effective planning of harvest. Due to its resistance to diseases and adverse factors, as well as high adaptability, the variety is universal and in demand for intensive agriculture in suitable climatic zones.
