Description
Odesskaya Vihovannaya — this is a winter wheat variety developed by the Selection-Genetic Institute and registered in 2013 for cultivation in the Polissia, forest-steppe, and steppe regions of Ukraine. The variety belongs to medium-early, tall, and short-stemmed wheat of intensive universal use. It is characterized by high frost and heat resistance, resistance to lodging, as well as group resistance to major diseases such as powdery mildew and brown leaf rust. Plant height varies from 82 to 104 cm, the 1000-grain weight is 38–52 g, and the vegetation period lasts approximately 284–288 days.
The variety exhibits high grain quality indicators: protein content is 13.8–14.6%, and crude gluten content is 28–34%. Flour from this variety has high strength (414–436 AU) and provides bread volume from 100 g of flour within 880–1110 ml. Bread-making quality is rated 4.6–4.9 points, indicating high product quality. The presence of the wheat-barley translocation 1AL/1RS in the genotype does not significantly affect the bread-making properties of the flour.
Odesskaya Vihovannaya is characterized by high adaptability to various agro-climatic conditions, ensuring stable yield even under adverse factors. The variety exhibits high drought resistance (9 points), frost resistance (8–9 points), and resistance to grain germination in the ear. Potential yield reaches 115–120 c/ha (or up to 12 t/ha). The recommended sowing rate is 4.5–5.5 million seeds per hectare. Due to its agronomic characteristics and grain quality, the variety is widely used for grain and bakery product production in various regions of Ukraine.
