It belongs to the erytrospermum subtype and is characterized by a pyramidal head and a 1000-grain weight ranging from 36 to 43 grams. The plants are low-stemmed, with a height of 77 to 90 cm, which ensures resistance to lodging. The variety is mid-early, heading and ripening simultaneously with the standard DON 107 variety. The maximum yield achieved in 2022 was 10.87 t/ha, while the average yield exceeds the standard by 0.23-0.32 t/ha depending on the predecessor.
REGION 161 is distinguished by its high milling and baking qualities, forming high-quality grain. The variety possesses high resistance to major diseases such as yellow rust and bunt, as well as high frost and drought resistance. Thanks to these characteristics, it is recommended for cultivation in various regions of Russia, including the North Caucasus, Lower Volga, Central Black Earth, Central, Middle Volga, and Ural regions, on high and medium agro-fertilizer backgrounds.
Optimal sowing dates and sowing rates from 4.0 to 5.5 million viable seeds per hectare ensure effective use of the variety in agrotechnologies. REGION 161 is a high-yielding and reliable winter wheat variety that combines resistance to adverse climatic conditions and diseases with high yield indicators and grain quality.
