Description
SARATOVSKAYA 42 is a spring soft wheat variety created at the Research Institute of Agriculture of the South-East. It is an albidum type with a white, glabrous, and awnless spike of prismatic shape, medium density and length. The variety's pedigree includes albidum c - 1616 and Saratovskaya 38. The variety is characterized by early maturity, an average vegetation period of about 84 days, and medium plant height.
One of the key features of SARATOVSKAYA 42 is its high drought resistance and lodging resistance, which allows it to consistently yield high harvests even in severely droughty years. The variety is not demanding on soil fertility and is capable of competing with other varieties in regions with water deficit, such as certain regions of Russia and Kazakhstan. The maximum yield recorded in production conditions reaches 47 centners per hectare.
The grain of the variety is characterized by excellent physical properties: it is glassy, with high kernel weight and well-developed structure, ensuring high-quality flour and bread produced from this raw material. Despite resistance to adverse agro-technical conditions, the variety is not resistant to infection by powdery bunt and brown rust. The economic value of the variety lies in the stable production of high-quality grain, which makes it in demand for agricultural production.
