Description
Sigma 5 is a spring soft wheat variety developed by Omsk breeders based on a homozygous digaploid line created by scientists from the Institute of Cytology and Genetics of the SB RAS. Thanks to the use of this genetic line, resistant to stem rust, the breeding period was significantly reduced to six years, which is much faster than traditional methods. The variety was included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements after successful variety trials and confirmation of its qualities.
The main advantage of Sigma 5 is its high resistance to leaf-stem diseases, such as powdery mildew, loose smut, and stem rust. This resistance is provided by a complex of genes of the original digaploid line, which makes the variety a reliable choice for growing in various conditions. In addition, the variety is homozygous for morphological traits, which contributes to the stability and predictability of its characteristics.
Sigma 5 is characterized by high yield, exceeding the indicators of the standard variety Duet, which does not possess resistance to stem rust. In addition, the variety is characterized by high grain quality: improved nature, increased weight of 1000 grains, increased protein and gluten content, and high flour strength. These qualities make Sigma 5 an attractive choice for producers oriented towards obtaining high-quality grain and products from it.
